Template talk:Infobox Language/IPA notice

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a sub-template of {{language}}: it is not meant to stand alone. It appends a footer notice to the infobox about displaying IPA with Unicode. It is currently the default notice. --Gareth Hughes 19:09, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Is this template broken?

Look at Template:Infobox Language, for instance. — Omegatron 20:53, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

The   was removed by someone who didn't test it first — it's there for a reason, and removing it broke it. — Gareth Hughes 21:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
I removed the nbsp because it breaks things, so I could easily say "The nbsp was put back again by someone who didn't test it first." Putting it back broke all these articles, so I'm reverting you. If it causes problems where you linked, I'll try to solve them. Shinobu 00:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I can see what you're talking about at Basque language. But those are not the kind of problems that you should try to fix with an nbsp. An nbsp will be put in the wikitext, flowing all the way up to the HTML generated, which contains a superfluous   as a result. I will try to fix this properly. Shinobu 00:26, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Solved. If there are any additional problems, please do note them here, or fix them properly, but don't revert anything. As mentioned earlier, my changes were done for a reason, undoing them will break articles. Shinobu 00:37, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
It still would have been wise to test them first. Playing with these templates and then not realising that you've broken them (because you have to refresh the cache) affects a lot of pages. Take a little bit of user space and test it out: that's the way this stuff was originally put together. — Gareth Hughes 03:06, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
