[edit] Elevation vs. Altitude

The word altitude is used for something that's airborne; elevation is used for something attached to the ground, or for the ground itself. I've corrected the label, but left the parameter name the same (for now) to avoid having to fix a lot of pages. We should probably clean this up soon, though. David 21:42, 2005 Apr 23 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. This template has not yet been implemented on very many pages (maybe 10 cities) yet so I could make the change quite quickly. I'm glad you caught that error before the template became too distributed. BCKILLa 09:59, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Weather/Climate info

Since we Canadians are always talking about out weather, how about including some climate info. It is available from Environment Canada at their Weather Winners web page and historical data is at Climate Normals web page. Suggestions: could include average winter & summer temperature, rain & snowfall and even maybe some rankings from the Weather winners site. Luigizanasi 09:08, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Not a bad suggestion. --BCKILLa 08:07, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Canadian City/Testing et. al.

There are number of "test" templates that have been created, including Template talk:Canadian City/Testing, Template:Canadian City/Testing/Header Images include:Coat of Arms, and Template:Canadian City test. Are any of them still needed, or can they be deleted. BlankVerse 06:45, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, since the main template still introduces an annoying and unnecessary horizontal scrollbar into every article in which it is used, I would say that, yes, these tests are still needed. Once the template has been fixed, they can be deleted. -- Derek Ross | Talk 04:17, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)
I believe I've fixed the problem. There were a couple of weird div elements (one in the Latitude/Longitude row, and one in the Mayor row). They had a style attribute:
style="visibility:hidden; position:absolute;"

[edit] What's with the style="visibility:hidden; position:absolute;" div?

Can someone explain what these were trying to do, please? With a hidden visibility, they don't seem to have any purpose. -GrantNeufeld 18:18, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

the purpose with the hidden visibility things for adding more flexibilty to the template, to allow for changes such as removing the motto link, or using an alternate method for supplying the image location instead of following the default naming scheme as per Help:Template:Canadian City and other options. It's not the best way of doing it, but it's a kind of a work around until the Wiki code for templates becomes more flexible. It's intended to reduce the need to re-edit every page when a new option is added, so that some options can be left out without changing the appearance of pages that don't make use of those options. --BCKILLa 05:34, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

Have a look at Template:Infobox School. It seems to have a nice way to do this. Image:Ca-on-sb.gif UTSRelativity (Talk) 04:38, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Location image

How do I change the image name for the location? The generic one does not alway apply. -- Earl Andrew - talk 23:15, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

Nevermind, I figured it out. -- Earl Andrew - talk 03:54, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

I'm not familiar enough with templates to go tinkering, but the map for Comox, BC, is very wrong- is there an easy way to fix this? I'd appreciate any help. Hoolme 25April 2006

The map is correct. If you click on the map, you will get a larger picture of it. The red part indicates the regional district while the yellow square indicates the location of Comox. Cadillac 23:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

How about changing the image size - how does one do that? By default images seem to scale to fit a set width of 300px whether they're larger or smaller - small images that get sampled upwards to fit tend to look pretty terrible.--dragfyre 02:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] coordinates in title

Tried adding {{coor title dm}}, but too many still using old syntax.

[edit] Unhide

What is the "Unhide =" template for? It seems to not even exist. Ardric47 05:14, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

And "Hide =" too. Ardric47 00:36, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {{{Reference Name|City of {{PAGENAME}}}}}, Canada

I think this looks terrible for something that is supposed to be a simple title at the top of an infobox. At the very least the "Canada" should be removed (you don't see "USA" in American cities' infoboxes). My personal preference would also be to remove the {{{PAGENAME}} and allow the name of the city to be added in manually, so that the province can also be omitted for notable cities where it is relatively unnecessary (like, for instance, Toronto). OZLAWYER talk 18:55, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

The "Reference Name" parameter allows for removal of the province if one would wish, although I don't agree that it should be removed just because Toronto is notable. An encyclopedia should be as informative as possible and the info box allows for quick access to information => i.e. what province is a city in. BCKILLa 07:59, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
"USA" probably should be added to the U.S. cities. --curling rock Earl Andrew - talk 08:14, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
You really think USA should be added? If "USA" is added, then it should also be added to the titles of articles about those cities, (and "Canada" should be added to the titles of articles about Canadian cities). Wouldn't it be better if the title matched the title over the infobox? That is, wouldn't it be better to leave out both "USA" and "Canada"? OzLawyer 20:16, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Area Code

The Area Code is listed on the template, but I don't see a code to add it to any of the listings. I can play with it and try and add it, but does someone more experienced want to do that, or explain to me how to add the area code to a city listing. Mr Minchin 22:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Area Code= OzLawyer 20:16, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Elevation Hideable?

Can elevation be hidden? I don't know the elevation for a city that I used the template for. If it's not hideable, can anyone find me the elevation of Lévis, Quebec? OzLawyer 00:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

What is "hideable" anyway? (#Unhide) Ardric47 07:21, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox City

People are replacing this infobox with Template:Infobox City on some pages. How do we feel about this? I reverted it on one page I watch (although some time later, not having caught it at first), mainly because it it said MLAs and not MPPs (although I found out after that that was changeable). Still, why do we need a global infobox for cities? OzLawyer / talk 13:47, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
