[edit] Not affiliated with Sears

Despite is name, Sears Point Raceway was in no way affiliated with Sears department stores. 67.188.172.165 21:43, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

On a related note, I don't like the idea that we're supposed to change the name here whenever a new corporation buys a racetrack. The people I know who drive at this track, and even NASCAR drivers I've seen on TV, call it Sears Point, and that's what I think we should call it. ENeville 19:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Whether we like it or not, what is on the front of that grandstands, whoever pays for it, is the official name, and as such, is the article title. If we wish to mention historical names, that is right and proper too. -slowpokeiv 02:13, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I guess I see it the other way around. The Wikipedia:Naming conventions say, and I think this makes sense, "article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize". The name people know something by is the real name, whether the corporate moneybags like it or not, and it's their sponsored name that should be mentioned . ENeville 15:44, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
