Inflationary English

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inflationary English is a language game, originally created by Victor Borge. Its basic rule is to increase any number or word with a pronunciation similar to a number (like "free", as opposed to "three") by one, so "Tennis is free for anyone" becomes "Elevennis is four five anytwo", and "Someone went to the tanner" becomes "Sometwo went three the elevenner". The language game of Leet also contains traces of Inflationary English.

Some words that lend themselves well to inflationary English include tulip, constitution, create, lieutenant (if using the English pronunciation), and coccyx.
