Infected is a third person shooter for the Playstation Portable. The game was made by Majesco and Planet Moon Studios. There was a contest held before the release of the game and the winner was to be featured in the game as secret avatar. The winner was sent a code and was told not to give it out to any one else. The code was later leaked on the web. Slipknot, Chimaira, and Blood Rayne were all secret avatars. The plot for Infected puts you in the shoes of a cop in New York City sometime before Christmas Day. However, as the (somewhat disturbing) opening scene reveals, the entire town is rapidly being, well, infected with a virus that turns people into ravaging, bloodthirsty zombies.

[edit] Gameplay
Gameplay is a frantic over-the-shoulders "Smash TV" type blaster which revolve around your two primary weapons; one of the weapons from the list below (see the Weapons sub-section) and a Zombie gun. Players must damage an enemy until their energy level drops to zero. This does not kill the enemy, but instead allows the player to use the Zombie gun on them, thus killing the enemy. If there are more than one enemy near each other in this state, then they "link" together and the player can earn combos by dispatching these linked enemies at the same time. This tends to lead to huge score bonuses, while larger combos drop tertiary weapons/bonuses for the player to collect (including temp Invunerability and Chainsaw Rampage, which is as fun as it sounds).
Missions range from the basic "clear an area of zombies" to "rescue the civilians", by simply collecting them and drop off at a helipad point. The second theme is slightly different than normal as there is an extra gauge added to the HUD which is an "Infected" bar. This has 3 sections to it; one for zombie level, one for area threat and one for the civilian level. If the civilian level drops down to a very low level (due to the zombies killing them) then the Zombie threat will increase and cause a rush of enemies to your vicinity. The enemies in this rush will be a lot more difficult to dispatch, so it's in the player's best interest to keep the threat levels down to prevent this. Another thing with this mode is that the civilians need to be dropped off at a helipad point, which on later missions can only handle a certain number of civilians, forcing the player to reach other dropoff points.
[edit] Weapons
Whenever a player starts a mission, they begin with the lowest weapon available. As more kills are performed, a gauge on the right of the player's display fills up and when the gauge passes certain levels, the next weapon is offered to the player. Players have to maintain their kill rate however, as this gauge does slowly trickle back down if no kills are maintained (ie the player will only be able to use lower based weapons again).
- Pistol: weak, but fires fast. The first gun you will get.
- Shotgun: more powerful than the pistol, but has slower firing.
- Machine gun: fires very fast, does about as much damage as a level 2 pistol on each shot.
- RPG(Rocket propelled grenade): fires grenades, that look like fireballs. Very powerful, but extremely hard to aim.
- BMFG: A stronger gun than the RPG.
All these weapons are upgradable (which become available for upgrade as more missions are completed) up to a maximum of level 4. At the same time sub-weapons can become available for purchase, which once bought appear as random drops during missions rather than being equipped from the start. These range from your basic firebomb/grenade and the fun Chainsaw-shield combo all the way to the Ultimate Street Cleaner, which is an equivalent to a localised nuclear blast.
[edit] Trivia
- Some of Majesco's published games, like Psychonauts are featured as ads in the game.
- The BMFG is a play on id software's BFG 9000 in the Doom series which stands for Big Mother Fucking Gun.
