Indonesian American

Indonesian Americans are Americans of Indonesian descent. Indonesia is an archipelagic nation in the region of Southeast Asia. Indonesian Americans are the fourth largest Southeast Asian ethnic group in the United States after the Filipino Americans, Vietnamese Americans, and Thai Americans. Their population, as recorded in the US Census 2000, is approximately 70,000 and about 3,000 Indonesian nationals immigrate to the United States annually.

The majority of Indonesian Americans reside in large cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, New York, and Chicago.
In the Silicon Valley region of Northern California, there are numerous professional engineers of Indonesian descent in many high tech companies such as Cisco Systems, KLA TENCOR, Google, Yahoo, SunMicro, and IBM to name a few.
There are also some Indonesian Americans serving in the US Military and have served in the post 9/11 Iraq and Afghanistan war.

Most Indonesian Americans belive in a Supreme Being and adhere to one of the five main world religions. The majority of Indonesian Americans in the United States are either Christian or Muslim.
Some Indonesian Americans are of Dutch origins as Indonesia was its colony for 350 years. Many Indonesian Americans also have Chinese ancestry, thus can be categorized as Chinese Indonesian American.
