United States House of Representatives, Indiana District 9 is a district of the United States Congress in south-central and south-eastern Indiana. The district is represented in the 109th United States Congress by Mike Sodrel (R). The chief candiates in 2006 were the Republican candidate and current 9th District Congressman Mike Sodrel, Democratic candidate and previous (1999-2005) 9th District Congressman Baron Hill, and Libertarian candidate/Indiana University Southeast professor Eric Schansberg. This was the third time Sodrel and Hill have faced each other; Hill beat Sodrel by 9,485 votes in 2002 and Sodrel beat Hill by 1,425 votes in 2004. Hill beat Sodrel in 2006, and so will serve in the 110th United States Congress.

Sodrel was the only Republican to represent the district since 1965 when Lee Hamilton (D) defeated incumbent Earl Wilson (R) , who had represented the district for 22 years (1941-1959 and 1961-1965). Hamilton represented the district for 34 years (1965-1999). Bush won the district with 59% of the vote in 2004.[1]
