Indian School Muscat

The Indian School Muscat is an international school in Muscat, Oman. It was founded in 1975 with 135 students. As of 2005 it has an enrollment of over 6,500 and claims to be the largest co-educational institution in the Gulf. The school is located in Darsait and has excellent facilities for academic and extra-curricular activities.
The school is sponsored by the Indian Embassy and supervised by the host country's Department of Private Education. It is affiliated with the New Delhi Central Board of Secondary Education and holds All-India Secondary School Examinations at secondary and senior secondary levels. The current principal of this school is Mr. Ainsley L. Edgar who had received the best teacher award in the national level in the year 2003 from the President of India. Mr. Edgar has served as the Secretary and Chairman of the Council of CBSE affiliated schools in the Gulf.
Indian School Muscat was earlier known as Indian Central School and has grown from the one building to the huge school that it is today. The High school section is in the newer section of the school. The school has a few playgrounds which includes the Big field and the quadrangle.
The school is a member of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. This scheme was launched officially on 18th November 1992 with 23 girls and 20 boys from the school. At present the school has 358 award entrants, who are taking part in different confidence and character building activities such as service, skills, expeditions and physical recreations which are the important requisites to win the Awards.
The school has its own fleet of buses and also allows privately managed buses to operate for transportation.
The school has a uniform which is white shirt and checkered shorts for boys of junior school and a white shirt and trousers for boys of middle and senior school. The girls wear a checkered pinafore with a white shirt.
The kindergardeṆ and first and second grade school is located at Jibroo which is a few miles away from the main school.
