Independent is the third full-length album from Sacred Reich, a thrash metal band from Arizona, United States. It was released in 1993, and follows the A Question EP from 1991, and 1990's full-length The American Way.

The band followed this with their fourth full-length album, Heal in 1996. The album features drummer Dave McClain who later went on to play with Machine Head.

[edit] Overview

The all-out thrash metal which was prevalent on their debut Ignorance album six years previously was all but gone by the time of this release – a process which started on 1990's The American Way which saw them slow down, but still retain a hard edge.

Whereas they may have influenced a few bands back in their 1987 limelight days, on this album they show more signs of being influenced by others – the oft-used Black Sabbath style, particularly on "Crawling" and "Open Book", and quirky Anthrax-style rhythms on most of the middle five tracks.

"If Only" and "I Never Said Goodbye" are the obligatory instrumental and epic "ballad" tracks, but the opening three tracks are arguably Sacred Reich at their best.
