Inahime

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ina (1573-1620)(稲姫) also known as Inahime or Princess Ina was the daughter of the legendary Sengoku Period Samurai, Honda Tadakatsu, and was later adopted by Tokugawa Ieyasu. She was described as very beautiful and highly intelligent.

When Oda Nobunaga seized virtual control of the land, Sanada Nobuyuki started an opposition against him. This impressed Ina and she married him.

On the eve of the Battle of Sekigahara, Ina, using her bow and arrow, fired shots at both Masayuki and Yukimura Sanada from a turret in Numata Castle, repelling their attempted entry. After the war, however, she asked her father and adoptive father to have mercy on Masayuki and Yukimura. After the war, she put down her bow and put her fighting life behind her to concentrate on her new child and husband.

[edit] Ina in Fiction

In the PlayStation 2 video game Samurai Warriors, Ina is a warrior who is deeply conflicted on her reason for fighting; for peace or enjoyment. Her attitude is described as a "non love, but work" type of attitude. She doesn't care for a normal woman's life (which means get married, have children and keep the clan alive) and rather be on the battlefield fighting. (However, in her ending CG movie, she does end up settling down and is shown in a dress -- a usable alternate costume -- with an infant.) She seems to admire her father, Tadakatsu Honda, for his amazing prowess in the battlefield and wants to be a great warrior like a father. She wields a long bladed bow, or yumi so she can attack in melee combat and also by range.. Additionally, in the game, she takes one of Hattori Hanzo's accomplishment during Ieyasu's journey in Iga : escorting Anayama Baisetsu, while Hanzo escorts the lord personally. Historically, Hanzo took both tasks at once and succeeded them both.

Ina is also an unlockable character in Kessen III. In a similar fashion of unlocking Maeda Keiji, she is unlocked by uploading data from Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends to the game. However, she is merely present for gameplay purposes and is not involved in the game's plot.
