In the Shadow of the Kremlin, published in 1969, is a Yiddish work authored by Rabbi Dr. Baruch A. Poupko documenting his trip to the Soviet Union. It is one of the earliest descriptions of the physical and religious plight of Soviet Jewry under the repressive communist regime of the USSR post-World War II. The book urges American jewish activism and proposes a number of then ground-breaking solutions to aid Soviet Jewry many of which began to be implemented in the 1980's.
