Duke Ellington composed "In A Sentimental Mood" in 1935. The lyrics were written by Manny Kurtz and Irving Mills.

Ellington recorded his best known version together with John Coltrane and Miles Davis. The song has been performed by many other artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Art Tatum, Django Reinhardt, Pedro Rossi and Sonny Rollins.
