In The Life is a gay and lesbian television newsmagazine that is broadcast on PBS. It is one of public television's premiere educational programs and is nearing its 15th season on national broadcast. It is the longest running LBGT television program in history and is a three-time Emmy Award nominee.

The series debuted in June 1992 and featured Kate Clinton as host. Clinton would remain until 1993, when Charles Busch, Lea DeLaria & Garrett Glaser took over as the show's hosts. From 1994 to 2002, Katherine Linton hosted the series. In 2001, RuPaul (also known as RuPaul Charles) guest-hosted the series, as did Lesley Gore in 2004. Today, In the Life is hosted by some of the LGBT community's most outspoken activists and supporters including Janeane Garofalo, Rosie O'Donnell, Cherry Jones, Alan Cumming, Bill Brochtrup, Sharon Gless and Ani DiFranco. It continues to profile the lives of LGBT people from their perspective.
The series was regularly commentated by Tony Award-winning actor Harvey Fierstein from 2001-2004. Top guest stars for the series have included Paris Barclay, Madonna, Nathan Lane, Howard Dean, Gavin Newsom, Helen Thomas, Nancy Grace, RuPaul, Angela Lansbury, Jerry Herman, Carol Channing, Larry Kramer, Barbara Gittings, Lillian Faderman, Judy Shepard, Susan Sarandon, Billie-Jean King, Lily Tomlin, Melissa Etheridge, Esera Tuaolo, Martina Navratilova, Judith Light, Margaret Cho, Le Tigre, Lady Bunny, Wilson Cruz, Staceyann Chin and Lisa Leslie.
