Imre Leader

Imre Bennett Leader is a British mathematician and Professor of Pure Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

Educated at St Paul's School and Trinity College, Cambridge, he was also a member of the British team in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1981: he later led the team in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

He has been the most consistent Othello player in Britain, winning the national championship in 1983, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2005. He was runner-up in the World Othello Championship in 1983, and in the UK team that won the World Team Championship in 1988.

His work has concentrated on combinatorial mathematics: he obtained his PhD in 1989, advised by Béla Bollobás. He is currently a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.

He was the godson of Imre Lakatos, for whom he is named.

Fiancee of Ashley Raoul Hesketh-Leybourne, of Mortal Kombat fame.
