Improvidence is Brown University's first and only improv comedy student group. The group of about ten undergraduates performs nearly every weekend of the academic year to large, energetic audiences from across the university. The group is also well-known on campus for its humorous table slips that appear frequently in the dining halls.

[edit] Regular shows

Although the group is the only improvisational comedy troupe at Brown, it generally attracts larger audiences and performs more frequently than Brown's stand-up and sketch comedy student organizations. Shows are usually an hour long, and feature a mix of short and long-form improv. Aside from its own shows, the group is also available for other events and they sometimes perform with visiting improv comedy groups from other colleges.

[edit] "Long Shows"

In the spring of 2001, Improvidence held a 35-hour "Long Show" to set the world record for the longest continuous improvisational comedy performance. They broke their own record first in 2002 with a 36-hour show and again in 2006 with a 40-hour show. The Long Show has become an annual tradition for the group, although they do not require that the record be broken every year.

[edit] Auditions

Combining long form and short form improv styles, Improvidence's comedy comes from the wide variety of perspectives each member of the group brings to each performance. They try to find new styles of humor with each generation of members brought in. Depending on the size and need of the group, Improvidence auditions are usually held early in the fall semester and occasionally early in the spring semester.
