Imperial Wharf is a railway station planned for Chelsea in west London, on the Network Rail West London Line (WLL) from Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction. The station will be between West Brompton and Clapham Junction stations.
Originally planned to be opened in the summer of 2005, it is currently anticipated to open in 2007. It has begun appearing on some of the newest maps of the overground rail network and on the latest Geographers A-Z maps.
The station takes its name from a nearby residential development. The station will be in Sands End where the WLL crosses Townmead Road. It wll be constructed in conjunction with the Imperial Wharf redevelopment of a brown field, former industrial site.
The estimated cost in 2005 was £3 million of which £1.7 million is due to be provided by St. George, the developer of the Lots Road Power Station site, the remaining £1.3 million will only be paid by the house-builder Circadian if 800 apartment project gets the go-ahead following the recent Public Inquiry. this leaves a funding shortfall of £1.3 million[1].
If opened before November 2007 the station will first be served by Silverlink trains but, from November 2007, Silverlink services will be replaced by the new Transport for London London Overground operation.
