Imperial Courts, Los Angeles, California

Imperial Courts is a public housing project located in the Watts area of South Los Angeles (see South Central Los Angeles).

The federally-subsidized project of 498 units was completed in May 1944. The project is overwhelmingly inhabited by African-Americans; in 1991 they constituted 88 percent of the population. [1]

Parts of the motion picture Training Day were filmed in Imperial Courts to give the movie a true-to-life project setting.

Imperial Courts is zoned to Grape Elementary School, Markham Middle School, and Jordan High School. All three are in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
