Imaan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Imaan is an advocacy group for LGBT Muslims in the UK. The group was founded in September 1998 after members responded to a newspaper ad by the founder of the Al-Fatiha Foundation, a similar group operating in the United States. The organization was first called Al Fatiha UK after the US group, but the name was later changed to the Arabic word for faith.

Originally a collective of just six members, the group has grown to include almost 300 registered accounts at Imaan's website. Group membership remains anonymous to protect the safety of closeted participants. Imaan has organized three conferences in London on LGBT issues, and participates in the EuroPride March.
