Il Guarany

Il Guarany is an Italian opera by Carlos Gomes, based on the Brazilian novel O Guarani, written by José de Alencar. The libretto was written by Antonio Scalvini.
It was first performed at La Scala, Milan on March 19, 1870.
Carlos Gomes was from Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brasil. There is a statue of him there in honor of his memory.
