Ikuno-ku, Osaka

Ikuno (生野区, -ku) is one of 24 wards of Osaka, Japan.

The Tsuruhashi and Ikuno-ku districts are well-known for the large number of Korean-Japanese citizens (Zainichi Korean) living there, as well as for its large number of yakiniku (Korean-style barbeque) restaurants. Many families from Korea have lived in the Tsuruhashi district for three generations or more. While some Koreans chose freely to emigrate, many were forced to Japan and made to work in factories, in mines and as labourers, often under appalling conditions.
