Ikon (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ikon are a gothic rock band from Melbourne, Australia.

The band was founded in 1991 from the ashes of another gothic rock band, Death in the Dark. by vocalist/guitarist and Church of Satan member Chris McCarter, bassist Dino Molinaro and (former) vocalist Michael Carrodus.

In 1996 Ikon landed a licencing deal with American label Metropolis Records which saw their music released to a much larger audience outside Australia. This eventually lead to tours in Europe, including several performances at Gothic music festivals, including Wave Gotik Treffen, M'era Luna and Waves of Darkness.

Core members Chris McCarter (vocals, guitar) and Dino Molinaro (bass) make a striking blend of Gothic/Darkwave music, following in the footsteps of Joy Division and early New Order with a touch of Death In June.

The recent inclusion of long time friend of the band, Anthony Cornish (guitars live shows), will continue IKONs reputation as Australias biggest Gothic export.

To date, IKON have played extensively in Australia as well as Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Holland and Denmark alongside bands such as The Sisters of Mercy, H.I.M., London After Midnight, Soft Cell, Death In June, The Cruxshadows and the Mission.

IKON are members of the Crash Frequency Collective. Crash Frequncy is a collective of Industrial/Gothic bands from Australia who share a common goal of helping promote their music worldwide.
