Talk:Idea map

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Concept mapping and Idea mapping are two different things, and definately I would not combine them... same as Mind Map is not the same with Concept Map.

Mind Mapping was the start of Idea Mapping however it does not belong there either as it has taken a different shape over the past 20 years...Although idea mapping has a foundation in mind mapping, it does not hold to the laws of mind mapping. Rules are constantly broken based on the purpose and application of the map.

[edit] Different How?

Sorry, it takes more than claiming its different to show that it is in fact different. Breaking the mind map "Rules" is not a difference because mind mapping has no true rules, only guidlines. Is there another point of difference?

[edit] How the external link to www.IdeaMappingSuccess.com is not SPAM based on rules

Please remove the link from the SPAM filter... and add it under external links. According to the rules I was pointed to about external linking poolicies at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:EL

  1. Is it accessible? YES
  2. Is it proper (useful, tasteful, etc.)? VERY
  3. Is it entered correctly? YES
  4. Is the link, in the context used, likely to have a substantive longevity? YES

[edit] What should be linked to

  1. YES it is
  2. YES it is the official site of the author with the book of the same name as the article on wikipedia.
  3. N/A I think
  4. Site contains neutral and accurate material not already in the wiki article
  5. Site contains many examples continuously updated icluding copyrighted maps that have only been licenced to the website itself or the book that was published by Wiley.

[edit] Links to be used occasionally

  1. There are reviews on the site on the book.
  2. NOT a web directory category w
  3. NOT a fan site.
  4. NOT very large site
  5. Linking to copyrighted works is usually not a problem: the copyrights on some of the maps given as examples have been given to the site and the book.

[edit] Links normally to be avoided

  1. Not
  2. No, it is the main site on the subject continuously updated.
  3. Company I work for maintains the site, however it is not something I did for the company or have gotten paid for. I learned so much from author of the book that I feeel I need to help in giving this info to the world. That said if this is the problem check it out and let me know how it is spam given that it meets all the requirements of not being a spam link
  4. this site exists to promote idea mapping, so it will have things for sale or links to amazon for the book...but which site does not?
  5. it does not apply
  6. No other applications needed/.
  7. Not a Foreign-language site
  8. Not a Bookstore site thou it contains a couple of links to amazon on books that have been published on the subject.
  9. Not a blog.
  10. Not search engine results.

Please help! Lenroc1999 19:02, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Lenroc, I'm sorry to say but this site clearly fails Wikipedia:External links because it is clearly a links intended to promote a site, especially if that site's primary purpose is to advertise or sell products or services, or if the site requires payment to view the relevant content. If your site is so great, then you wouldn't need to add it yourself; others would do it for you. Best luck elsewhere. 24.215.234.4 15:40, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

No This is NOT my site.... just the authoritative site on the subject. Also there is no payment required to see the book maps, client maps or a lot of other information. However you should log in if you want to have a say in this.

[edit] Sorry, I don't see it

When I go to ideamappingsuccess.com I see an ad for a book and training courses. It is quite obviously a commercial site set up for the purpose of selling these products. What part of this site is there, not devoted to sales, that is essential to this article? Fan-1967 18:34, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
