Talk:Idan Raichel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Idan is from Kfar Saba. Who deleted that??????
- Well, the only person who edited it. That is, me. The article was not very well written and so I rewrote it. For instance, his dreadlocks aren't so significant to his music; use of the word project uncapitalised was only confusing; referring to his first album as the project, when it is in fact the name of the artist in a sense, etc... I'm sorry for leaving out that detail. Also, his birthplace was not included in the details (personal or band) at [1], my main source for this article. --jnothman 06:20, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- More importantly, from Kfar Saba seems highly vague: was he born there? does he live there? both? when/where was he born, if not there? --jnothman 06:22, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hinech Yafa: Let's clean this up before we put it in!
Someone inserted the following text, regarding הנך יפה being based on Song of Songs. '(From the lyrics: "..By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth; I sought him, but I found him not...I passed from them, when I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into my chamber ...Who is this that cometh up out of the wilderness?")'
'From the lyrics' admittedly was a later addition. But the quote is not from the song! To parallel what is above and the song lyrics:
במטתי כבר שבועות ביקשתי את שאהבה נפשי | By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth |
?? | I sought him, |
ולא מצאתיו | but I found him not |
חיפשתי בין כל רחובות העיר העמוסה שקרים הזאת ולא מצאתיו | ?? |
מצאוני השומרים הסובבים בעיר אך אהובי כמעט ולא מצאתי אותו | ?? |
?? | I passed from them, when I found him whom my soul loveth: |
אך לא ארפה ממנו ~= I held him, and would not let him go |
|
עד שאביאו אל תוך עירי אל בית אמי ואל חדרי ~= until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into my chamber |
|
אל מתתי | ?? |
הנך יפה | ?? |
... |
|
מי זאת עולה מן המדבר | Who is this that cometh up out of the wilderness? |
So, I guess then that the quotation was in fact from Song of Songs, not from Raichel's music (although the same IP address inserted the lyrics and the statement "From the lyrics").
We have a few issues then:
- Do we need / want a comparison with Song of Songs lyrics? If so, then we need to give verse citations not just arbitrary quotes, and we should try and match up as much as possible (ie, הנך יפה and מצאוני השומרים weren't even mentioned in the above quotation). We would need to discuss maybe how he appropriates these in meaning, etc...
- It is a breach of Copyright to post lyrics (and the above may need to be removed)
So if s/he who posted this can please speak up, that would be good.
