Idarat al-Mukhabarat al-Amma is the general intelligence service of Syria. It controls the notorious Palestine prison. The Idarat al-Mukhabarat al-Amma has successfully supppressed opposition in Syria, which includes some members of the Kurdish minority, which is discriminated against. This agency was likely involved in the abuse of Maher Arar, a Syrian Canadian who was transported to the Middle East by US intelligence agents.
