[edit] Da Lench Mob

Da Lench Mob first appeared on Ice Cube's debut album AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. The core members were Shorty, J-Dee, and T-Bone, though at the time Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Yo-Yo were also part of the group. In 1992, Da Lench Mob released their debut album, Guerillas In Tha Mist, a fiery burst of political rap that was produced by Ice Cube.

[edit] C.I.A.

C.I.A. was a hip hop group, which consisted of K-Dee, Sir Jinx and Ice Cube. The group began playing at parties organized by Dr. Dre, a member of a popular local hip-hop group called World Class Wreckin' Cru.

[edit] George Clinton

[edit] Cypress Hill

Coming from the same early West Coast hip hop scene, Cypress Hill became affiliates with Ice Cube during his album debut. Ice Cube and Cypress Hill collaborated numerous times. Ice Cube appeared in the video for Cypress Hill's "How I Could Just Kill a Man," while Sen Dog appeared in Cube's video for "Jackin' for Beats" and B-Real appeared in the 1993 video for "Really Doe." Sen is also mentioned on "It Was A Good Day" on The Predator.

[edit] Del Tha Funkee Homosapien

As Ice Cube's cousin, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien appeared on Ice Cube's 1990 debut solo album, Amerikkka's Most Wanted, in the song "Turn Off the Radio." At that time, Del was considered part of Da Lench Mob. In turn, Ice Cube went on to produce and appear on Del's debut solo album, I Wish My Brother George Was Here.

[edit] Flea and Anthony Kiedis

During the 1992 Lollapalooza, Ice Cube and The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed together on main stage. Both hailing from Los Angeles and sharing a love of P-Funk and hip hop music, the Peppers and Ice Cube apparently became well acquainted. Later that same year, Ice Cube featured Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of the Chili Peppers, and Flea, the bassist, in his video for the song "Wicked." Since then, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ice Cube have had multiple encounters. In 2004, both Ice Cube and the Peppers were featured in the documentary "Parliament-Funkadelic: One Nation Under a Groove." In 2005, Ice Cube and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed on the same stage with rapper Snoop Dogg during Snoop Dogg's 2005 Youth Football League Fundraiser Concert.

[edit] Mr. Short Khop

Mr. Short Khop, or simply Short Khop, first encountered Ice Cube in front of a 7 Eleven convenience store in South Central Los Angeles. After spitting a few rhymes, Short Khop managed to slip Ice Cube a demo tape. Ice Cube eventually struck a deal with the newcomer, and soon Short Khop made guest appearences in Ice Cube's 1998 War & Peace - Volume 1 (The War Disc). To return the favor, Ice Cube appeared on Short Khop's debut 2001 album, Da Khop Shop.

[edit] N.W.A.

In 1987, Eazy-E and manager Jerry Heller began Ruthless Records. By that time, Ice Cube had already written a song for Eazy-E, "Boyz-N-Tha-Hood", and when one of the bands on his label rejected it, Eazy-E decided to rap it himself. He formed the "Niggaz With Attitude" (N.W.A.), with Ice Cube and Tom van Vooren as the MC's, and former World Class Wreckin' Cru members Dr. Dre and DJ Yella as producers. Rappers Arabian Prince and The D.O.C. were added soon after. Eazy-E released the party album N.W.A. and the Posse on his Ruthless Records label in 1987. Although marketed as N.W.A. debut album, half the songs didn't feature N.W.A., but rather a loose connection of artists on Ruthless Records. After this, for unknown reasons Arabian Prince and The D.O.C. were no longer in N.W.A., but both continued to ghostwrite for the group. MC Ren was added to N.W.A. in 1988, after Arabian Prince and The D.O.C left the group.

In 1988, NWA released Straight Outta Compton, a hardcore wake-up call to the rap industry and society as a whole. The majority of the lyrics on the album were written by Ice Cube himself, with minor contributions from his fellow rappers.

However, Ice Cube split from the group in late 1989 when he discovered that Eazy and Jerry Heller, were skimming money off of album profits. The following year, NWA’s next full-length release without Cube, Efil4zaggin (a.k.a. Niggaz4Life), showed a clear animosity towards their former member. Insulting references to Ice Cube are found in several songs, and in the middle of the album the track “A Message to B.A.” Ice Cube is referred to as Benedict Arnold traitor. “When we see yo’ ass, we gon’ cut yo’ hair off an’ fuck you with a broomstick,” promises MC Ren. The track ends with the voice of Dr. Dre echoing Ice Cube’s original message: “Think about it – punk motherfucker.”

Ice Cube responded immediately. AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted had avoided direct attacks on N.W.A., but on Ice Cube’s second album, Death Certificate, Ice Cube fired back. He sampled and mocked the “Message to B.A.” before embarking on a full-length rap, "No Vaseline", a vicious "diss track" accusing N.W.A. and their associates of a variety of failings. However, tensions between Ice Cube and his bandmates lessened with the death of Eazy-E and the break-up of the group.

[edit] Public Enemy

Sharing much of Ice Cube's tendency towards hardcore lyrics and extreme socio-political views, Public Enemy became affiliated with Cube during his debut solo album in 1990. Chuck D helped produce the album (along with The Bomb Squad) and also appeared on the evocative, insightful track, "Endangered Species (Tales From the Darkside)." Meanwhile, Flavor Flav guest starred on the more humorous track, "I'm Only Out For One Thang."

[edit] Westside Connection

Westside Connection is a West Coast rap group consisting of Ice Cube, WC, and Mack 10. Their first album, Bow Down, reached the #2 position on the Billboard 200 in 1996. The group was formed during the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry, coming out after the death of Tupac Shakur. One particularly noteworthy rivalry was that between B-Real, of Cypress Hill, and Ice Cube, as Westside Connection's albums feature clear references to their disdain for B-Real, as in the song "King of the Hill" from the Bow Down.

[edit] World Class Wreckin' Cru

[edit] Yo-Yo

Now a Grammy award-nominated hardcore rap artist, the female rapper Yo-Yo made her first appearance on Ice Cube's 1990 album AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. Yo-Yo started out as a member of Da Lench Mob, and she collaborated with Ice Cube on the famous "battle of the sexes" track, "It's A Man's World." In a vein similar to songs such as "Tramp" by Otis Redding and "Hit the Road Jack" by Ray Charles, "It's A Man's World" feature Ice Cube and Yo-Yo exchanging disses and quips. Eventually, Ice Cube and Yo-Yo admit that "It's a man's world, but it wouldn't be a damn thing without a woman's touch."

[edit] Producers and DJ's

[edit] The Bomb Squad

Consisting of Chuck D, Hank Shocklee, Keith Shocklee & Eric "Vietnam" Sadler, the Bomb Squad produced Ice Cubes debut album. The Bomb Squad added an East Coast sound (consisting of dense layers of hip hop party jams, sampled speech and rock guitars plus other 'found' sounds) to Cube's signature West Coast sound.

The famous underground DJ Green Latern contributed to Laugh Now, Cry Later on the track "The Nigga Trapp."
