IBoy

The correct title of this article is iBoy. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.

iBoy is a Gameboy emulator for the iPod. Running in iPod Linux 2.4, the newest version can run almost all monochrome roms and now Gameboy colour roms.

[edit] Installation for iBoy 0.7.5

The newer versions have made installation simple, but documentation is unclear for many users. Users should follow the following instructions for a basic install for Floydzilla, but installing so that iboy can be run from the iPod Linux loader is also possible. Please note that the below instructions were carried out using a first generation nano, so results may vary.

  1. Download the iBoy 0.7.5 binaries
  2. Unizip the newkernel for colour roms, or the oldkernel for mono roms
  3. Place on the iPod, wherever you want. You may wish to put it in its own folder.
  4. Place a folder under this binary called Roms and place the roms you wish to use there.
  5. Un-mount the iPod.
  6. Enter Floydzilla, and go to File Browser. Navigate to the binary and execute it.
  7. The configuration will be automatically generated once "save global" is chosen from iboy's config menu. Iboy.cfg is stored in /etc of the linux partition and cannot normally be seen or edited in the windows environment.

These instructions can be used for the color iboy kernel, but the OSS setting must be switched off for it to work. Also, the LCD settings must be adjusted to allow proper display.
