Ian Sutherland is the Mayor of the District of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada

Sutherland has been the mayor of the District of Squamish (DOS) since November 2002. He won the elections by a large margin in Squamish's first local slate Squamish New Directions. However, in the 2005 elections, he won with only 55% of the vote against Terrill Patterson. Sutherland co-founded the Squamish New Directions(SND) political bloc in the 2002 election, which was able to elect all four of its members (which secured a majority of the 7 seat council). In the 2005 election, Sutherland and Ray Peters were the only New Directions members elected. As Peters died of cancer in March 2006[1], Sutherland is now the only New Directions member serving.
