Ian Shires

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ian Shires is an independent magazine publisher, born 1969 in Ohio.

Shires was brought into small press publishing by Matt Feazell and Chris Howard, in 1986. His early work included monthly minicomic titles such as Dungar and Mysterious Visions, and numerous one-shots and guest work in other people's publications.

In 1988 he published the very first attempt at a Small Press Guide, listing all known active small pressers. His work in that area continues to this day on the Dimestore Productions website. Shires started publishing small press newsletters soon after, first taking over a title by another company, then striking out on his own with Self Publisher!, and later Obscurity Unlimited and The Guide to Self Published Periodicals.

These days, Shires runs the Self Publisher Association (SPA), while building a distribution system just for independent publishers, and has brought back the original Self Publisher! Magazine name.
