Ian Cumming

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ian Cumming is a member of the Hash House Harriers, a running & drinking club, and one of its longest surviving members.

In 1962 his employer transferred him from his job in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (home of the original group that was formed in 1938) to Singapore. While there, he started the world's second hashing "kennel" - Singapore H3, also still very much in existance..

Upon his return to the United States in 1978, he founded the New York (Westchester County) Hash House Harriers. He is still (2006) actively hashing with the New York Hash.

Since Ian played rugby in England in 1947-1949, many -- if not most -- of the drinking songs known to him were learned in the rugby context.
