"I Think I Love You" is a 1970 single by The Partridge Family, sung by David Cassidy. The lyrics heavily reference love-shyness. In 1991 Voice of the Beehive covered the song, Kaci Brown did a pop cover in 2002, Less Than Jake did a rock/ska cover in 2002 for the Scream soundtrack. Paul Westerberg covered it in 2004, and in 2005, so did Constantine Maroulis and Katie Cassidy. David Cassidy himself did a soul remake of the song in 2003, for the album "Touch of Blue."
The song was rarely played after its period of extreme popularity, except on radio shows such as "The Lost 45's" of WZLX in Boston which replayed songs which were once very popular, but rarely heard. The song is widely regarded to have a very strong "cringe" factor from people who were of the target demographic that year.
In 1983, Ism's hardcore punk rendition of I Think I Love You topped the New Music charts at #6 (compiled from a composite of radio, club and retail reports) (CMJ New Music Report, June 6, 1983) however, the controversial Partridge Family spoof artwork on the cover led to major record retailers banning the single for sale.*[1] Their followup 1983 debut album A Diet For The Worms also included the song and entered the #65 slot on Progressive Radio's Top 100 (CMJ, New Music Report, January 16, 1984).
