"I Should Have Known Better" is a song by The Beatles from the album A Hard Day's Night, one of many early songs on which John Lennon played harmonica. Lennon was also the writer and lead singer on this track. This one of the first tracks in which we hear Harrison's 12-string electric guitar (alongside many other cuts on A Hard Day's Night). On this track, Harrison vamps the melody as a solo. Later The Byrds would make it their signature instrument. Lennon's vocals are double tracked. The mono and stereo versions have slightly different harmonica introductions. In the stereo version, the harmonica drops out briefly.
This song is in the key of G major.
Although the song was not released as a UK or US single, it was released as a single in some other countries, including West Germany, where it reached number 6.
Green Day later reworked the song as Hold On on their album Warning:.
