"I Have a Dream" was a hit record for Swedish pop group, ABBA. The single was taken from their 1979 album, Voulez-Vous, and was written (as all ABBA's hits were) by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It was released in December 1979, with a live version of "Take a Chance on Me" as the B-side. This was their final single released in the 1970s, the decade in which ABBA achieved arguably more commercial success than any other popular music act in the world. "I Have a Dream" is the only ABBA song that does not only feature the voices of all four bandmembers but also a large choir of children.

[edit] Chart success

"I Have a Dream" peaked at number two in the UK charts, beaten to the top by Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)". The single topped the charts in Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and was a top five hit in West Germany, South Africa and Ireland. It also became No.1 on RPM magazine Adult Contemporary chart in Canada. The Spanish-language version of the song released by ABBA and called "Estoy Sonando" reached No.3 in Mexico, No.4 in Argentina and No.9 and No.15 on airplay and singles charts, respectively, in Spain.

In the U.S., "I Have a Dream" was not released commercially but did become an airplay favorite on Easy Listening and Adult Contemporary radio stations; today, it is featured on many Adult Standards stations' playlists. Country Gospel singer Cristy Lane's cover of the song made it to No. 17 on the U.S. country singles chart in 1981.

Twenty years later, in 1999, the song went one place better in the UK charts, to number one, though as a cover version by boy band Westlife.
