[edit] About the record
The song was written by Steve Kipner and David Frank; who were the writers of Christina Aguilera's hit single "Genie in a Bottle". The song was aimed in the direction of fellow popstar, Britney Spears, and the success she received with her single and album by the name of ...Baby One More Time.
When Goodrem released her version she admits nowadays that the song was not her 'cup of tea', she called the flop of the song a 'learning experience'; one which she said enabled her to truly go in the direction she wanted to go in.
The single's B-side, "Here I Am" more of a dance-oriented number, also received minor success. Despite "I Don't Care" being a commercial flop, CDs of this song are a rarity amongst Goodrem fans, and for some, are a must-find. On her last tour she performed the song live with a choreography.
[edit] Music video
Goodrems video for this song was rather simple. It showed an angsty Goodrem escaping from her parent's house to be with her rebellious 'boyfriend' (represented a la James Dean). The boyfriend takes Goodrem on a motorcycle ride into the forest, where he blindfolds her. When Goodrem takes her blindfold off, she is surrounded by a tree full of ribbons, a special surprise that was created by the boyfriend. The video is also intercut with scenes of Goodrem dancing in a Christmas-light-filled backdrop, and one where Goodrem is cavorting in a wheat field.
