I Can Get It for You Wholesale
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I Can Get It For You Wholesale is a 1962 Broadway musical, which became notable as the Broadway debut of Barbra Streisand. The book by Jerome Weidman was based on his own 1937 novel of the same title, and the music and lyrics were by Harold Rome.
Set in the Great Depression of the 1930s, the action takes place in the New York Rag Trade (clothing industry) and shows a tough businessman who will stop at nothing to get to the top. Elliot Gould played the businessman, Harry Bogen. Others in the cast were Lillian Roth, Marilyn Cooper, Harold Lang, Bambi Linn, Ken LeRoy, and Sheree North. Streisand had the small part of Bogen's secretary, Miss Marmelstein, but was given the number "What Are They Doing To Us Now".
The show opened at the Shubert Theatre on 22 March 1962 and played 301 performances.
Gould and Streisand were later married and divorced.
