I'll Wait

"I'll Wait" is another hit from Van Halen's 1984 album, 1984, co-written by former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald. Like their earlier hit "Jump" from the same album, this song is driven almost entirely by keyboards. David Lee Roth and Ted Templeman wanted the song left off the album and Edward Van Halen and Donn Landee wanted it on and pushed for it. The song is about a girl wearing men's underwear in a Calvin Klein ad and Dave penned the lyrics while looking at the ad while it was tacked onto his Sony Trinitron TV. This was probably the closest the Roth-incarnation of Van Halen ever came to a love song. [1]
