[edit] Plot

A group of teenagers are terrorized in a small Colorado town. When a July 4th prank based on a frightening legend results in the accidental death of one of their best friends, the teens swear themselves to secrecy and to not tell a single living soul about their involvement.

Exactly one year later, however, they all find themselves back in the same town. Amber becomes slightly paranoid, even more so when she is sent 50 messages on her cell phone, all stating the same thing: I know what you did last summer. She runs to Zoe, who she hasn't seen in a long time. They go to Roger, who swears he didn't tell, and won't go to the police.

Zoe decides to go and find Colby, who is now working as a life-guard at the pool. After an argument, Colby goes up to his tower. Looking down, he sees the words "I know what you did" written immaculately in water by his chair.

Later on, a sequence of events places Amber at the ski lifts. She sees The Fisherman's shadow is in a lift in front of her. She is briefly attacked but survives. Meanwhile, Roger is at his home, drinking, doing drugs, and harming himself with the hook used in the prank, suddenly he is attacked and killed by The Fisherman, Amber, Zoe and Colby arrive soon after his death and believe that it was suicide.

Returning home after finding Roger, the three find that all the pictures Amber had placed on her wall have been ripped up and thrown along the stairs and about her room. The word "soon" is made on her wall out of other pictures.

The three start passing around ideas on suspects, including Sheriff Davis. Afterwards, Amber returns home to pack, and Sheriff Davis finds a note on his windshield, planted by Colby. Soon, Zoe has multiple dreams in which she is killed by The Fisherman. Upon waking, she finds that the pillows, couch, and guitar have all been slashed with a blade.

Back home, Lance finds Amber and shows her that the words "You Know" have been inscribed on his motor-cycle. Meanwhile, Colby is swimming at the pool when he realizes he is evidently alone, and the power is flickering. Returning to one side of the pool, Colbys ankle is hooked by the killer. He manages to escape, but barely. They all convene at Zoe's place.

After making plans to leave, Zoe reveals that she can't go. Amber says they should all stay, and spends the extra time looking up the legend on the Internet. Zoe is in the background singing as Lance and Amber kiss.

The next scene gives a visual tour of the Fair as we follow Colby to find the others. They head in to see Zoe's show, and Colby leaves to get a cock-tail. Zoe is outside meditating when she is disturbed by one of the band members. The camera flashes to show that both Deputy Hefner and Sheriff Davis are watching Amber and Lance, as if expecting them to do something.

Outside, Colby is taking phone directions to find a drink. The camera flashes back to see the end of Zoe's performance, to which a loud applause is given. Afterwards, she heads into the dressing room, where Amber and Lance join her. They are attacked, and run down a hall of lockers, however Zoe ends up being separated from the rest and is killed.

Going down to see Colby, they see Sheriff Davis come up to the body after calling in for back-up. Calling them forward, he asks who is after them before being killed. In a panic, Amber called Colby and tells him to get out of the lodge, but it is too late. Colby runs into the kitchen and grabs a knife in order to defend himself. He later stabs The Fisherman with the knife, but he merely pulls it out. This leads to a brief chase ending with Colby getting killed.

Amber and Lance try to escape the fisherman, but are caught. Lance is being attacked, so Amber runs up behind the fisherman and stabs him in the head with a fish hook. As the fisherman stumbles back, he is sliced by some blades, and apparently dies. A year later, Amber is driving in her car, when one of her tires blows. Whilst checking it she looks around for clues, and as she does so the fisherman is seen approaching from behind her. The movie fades to credits with the sound of her screams and possible death.
