Hyperspace is a common way to traverse large areas of space in a relatively short period of time.

In Homeworld, the Mothership is equipped with a hyperspace drive ("hyperdrive"); this is its only way to move throughout the single-player portion of the game. The hyperdrive works by opening a rip in space and then traveling through it to a destination. The hyperdrive can be interrupted, bringing the ships that it is moving out of hyperspace, by a hyperspace inhibitor or a gravity generator.

Hyperspace itself is also home to entities that live within it. At least one form of life from hyperspace, The Beast from Homeworld: Cataclysm, has been observed outside of hyperspace.
