Hyperlipemia is the presence of excess lipids in the blood. It can be controlled through diet and exercise. Hyperlipemia can be a hereditary condition. It can also develop as a side effect of treatment with certain drugs. For example, hyperlipemia can develop among patients with Kaposi's sarcoma who are treated with retinoids such as 9 - cis retinoic acid.
