Hyannis is a village in the city of Barnstable, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. It is a residential area, and it also contains the town’s central business/commercial district, which includes town offices and several shopping districts, including Cape Cod Mall and the historic downtown Main Street. Cape Cod Potato Chips is headquartered in Hyannis, and Zayre Department Stores opened their first location on Main Street in 1956.

Hyannis has the most ethnically diverse community on Cape Cod, with non-whites making up over 30% of the population. One of the largest Brazilian communities in the state outside of Boston reside in Hyannis, along with a significant number of African Americans, Asians and Hispanics. Attractions and events in Hyannis are frequently of a multicultural nature.

The village was named after Iyannough (also spelled Iyanough), the local Indian sachem (chief).

The Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League play at McKeon Park from mid-June to early August.

Hyannisport (also Hyannis Port) is an affluent residential and fishing village. Hyannis Harbor provides access to the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. It is also the location of the Kennedy family residence and a memorial to President Kennedy on the waterfront that was erected by Barnstable citizens in 1966. The memorial includes a fountain and a fieldstone monument with the presidential seal and JFK inscription: "I believe it is important that this country sail and not sit still in the harbor." Also, one of the premier Golf Courses on Cape Cod, Hyannisport Golf Club, is located on Irving Ave.

Hyannis is home to Barnstable High School, which is the largest high school on Cape Cod. Other high schools include Sturgis Charter Public School, a charter school featuring the International Baccalaureate program, and Pope John Paul II High School. Also, Trinity Christian Academy is housed in Hyannis. Trinity Christian Academy just recently opened their high school and 2005 marked their first graduate.

From the Mid Cape Highway (Route 6), Hyannis is located off exit 6 by taking Route 132 south. Route 28 also runs through Hyannis. Barnstable Municipal Airport is located near the junction of Route 132 and 28.
