Husnock

The Husnock are a fictional alien race mentioned in Episode 51 ("The Survivors") of the science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Husnock were described as "a species of hideous intelligence, who knew only aggression and destruction". In 2366, a Husnock warship attacked and destroyed the Federation colony on Rana IV. In retribution for the Husnock attack, the only survivor of the colony - a Douwd named Kevin Uxbridge - destroyed the entire Husnock race with a single thought. In his words:
- "I didn't kill just one Husnock, or a hundred, or a thousand ... I killed them all ... all Husnock ... everywhere."
Recreations of the Husnock warship were later created by the Douwd to drive away the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), which had come to Rana IV to investigate the Husnock attack. The warship proved more than a match for the Federation flagship, easily matching it in speed and besting it handily in firepower. Indeed, the warship was able to destroy the Enterprise's shields with a single four hundred gigawatt burst of particle energy (in the form of a jacketed stream of positrons and antiprotons); its energy reserves allowed for "far more powerful bursts". Additionally, a full barrage of phasers and photon torpedoes from the Enterprise inflicted no damage whatsoever on the warship. Given the power of the Husnock recreations, "The Survivors" indicated that the Husnock were possibly vastly superior (militarily) to Starfleet and that, had not the Douwd destroyed their entire race, the Federation would most likely have come into hostilities with the encroaching Husnock. It is worth noting, however, that since the ship was a recreation, it may have been significantly more or less powerful than the actual Husnock.
