Hush: a curious name for a rock band that turned thousands of teenies on to hysterical weeping and screaming and which was once barred from entering a country town by the mayor who did not want them "interfering" with the local girls.
Band members were loud in every way: from their satiny costumes and fluffy mullets to their thrusting and wiggling, and their songs, which were mainly a celebration of sex, including Glad All Over, Get the Feeling and their No.1 hit, Bonie Maronie.
The band line-up are Keith Lamb (singer), Les Gock (lead guitarist), Rick Lum (bass player) and Smiley Pailthorpe (drummer).
Hush was a 1970s Australian Glam Rock pop group and became famous during frequent appearances on the ABC show Countdown for teenagers and live concerts. Hush had an unforgettable performance on Countdown, it was the first colour episode to go to air and with their colourful outfits, they were one of the bands who got the gig. In 1976 they added a second guitarist, Jacques De Jongh. Rick Lum left soon after. After the band broke up in 1977, Keith Lamb formed other bands including Hush 2 and Airport, before dropping out of sight with health problems. Les became a jingle writer and won a major KFC campaign in the early 80s.
In August 2004, Hush reformed for Nordoff-Robbins charity event. The line-up was Keith Lamb, Rick Lum, Smiley Pailthorpe and Les Gock performing together for the first time over 25 years.
In September of 2006, Hush played Australia wide with many other artists who appeared on Countdown during the seventies in the Countdown Spectacular Tour. Another original member, guitarist Robin Jackson, currently playing with Chris Turner & The Wolftones, re-joined them for the Countdown Spectacular Tour
