From http://www.osei.noaa.gov/Events/Tropical/Atlantic/2000/TRCmichael293A_G8.jpg, this satellite shot shows Hurricane Michael over the Northern Atlantic as a 100 mph hurricane. It would make landfall on Newfoundland shortly after this image was taken, and would lose tropical characteristics shortly after that.
