Hurban

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hurban (or Hispanic urban) is a relatively new radio programming format targeting young Hispanics in the United States, primarily consisting of reggaeton, latin pop and hip-hop, and dance music, and is usually presented in a mixture of English and Spanish. Core artists of the Hurban format include Daddy Yankee, N.O.R.E., Paulina Rubio, and Frankie J. Most Hurban stations also play reggaeton remixes of popular English top 40 songs.

KLOL in Houston, Texas debuted as the first Hurban station in the continental US in late 2004, displacing a 30+ year-old mainstream rock format. Since then, the format has grown to Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and other cities with large concentrations of younger hispanics.

The word Hurban comes from a fusion of the terms "Hispanic" and "Urban."
