Talk:Hungarian Urheimat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is not the correct English title for this article. There is no need to use the Magyar language in this title. Juro 03:31, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I used Hungarian language map for it. What is English translation of the name? I presume something like "Hungarian old homeland" or something like that? PANONIAN (talk) 12:32, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
As far as I know, the correct name is "Hungarian/Magyar Urheimat" (because it is also Slavic Urheimat, Indo-European Urheimat etc., and Őshaza means exactly urheimat). Juro 18:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bogus article title

As a native Hungarian I find the title of this article very confusing. "Hungarian Urheimat" is a half English and half German word combination that should not exist in any of these languages. My suggestion is to use "Hungarian Old Homeland" or "Hungarian Ancient Homeland" in the English Wikipedia and "Ungarische Urheimat" in the German.

[edit] Merge proposal

I did this proposal without noticing that Hungarian prehistory looks like ann exposition of one point of view, hence bad for a redirect target. Still, the organization is wrong. If there are several theories, then their details must be discussed in separate articles, with one common overview article, say, Origins of Magyars. At the moment I see quite different pieces are in Hungarian prehistory (bad name: it doesn't tell that this is juts one of theories of Hungarioan prehistory), Hungarian people, and Magyar őshaza (bad name, non-English; also doesn't reflect that it is but one theory, even if dominating.) The problem with possible move to "Hungarian Old Homeland" or "Hungarian ancient Homeland": there is no google hits. Please provide the English traditional title for the notion. ("hungarian urheimat" is also barely seee in google). What is the common term, then? `'mikka (t) 21:12, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page moves

Next time you move this page, please don't forget fix double redirects. Especially if someone proposes deletion of the title. If someone actually deleted, articles taht use old redirects will be in trouble finding their target. `'mikka (t) 21:23, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chain of nearly-identical articles

Hungarian Urheimat -> Magna Hungaria -> Levedia -> Etelköz

Is there anything to say more than just "hungarians moved from here to there"? If not much, then why don't we put everything into a single article, Magyar migration? It will be much more convennient to make sense what exactly is all this. `'mikka (t) 02:43, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
