Hunting tournament
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A hunting tournament is a live kill competition where individuals or teams try to kill the largest animal for sport. There are many types of hunting tournaments and they are all scored differently. Some organizations that endorse hunting tours are the National Rifle Association, NBDCA and Safari Club International.
The National Bird Dog Challenge Association is the largest bird dog challenge tournament; its hunting tournament started over 18 years ago. The NBDCA and Tournament Hunter LLC were founded for the sole purpose of bringing together men, women and children who share a mutual love for bird dogs, upland game hunting, tournament hunting and the preservation of the sport. With this in mind the NBDCA has designed a series of tournament hunting challenges that will test both you and your dog. The NBDCA format offers competition for both pointing and flushing breeds. A Top Gun Singles division challenge which consists of one competitor and one dog, competing against other entries in that division to harvest a predetermined quota of birds. A Doubles division challenge which consists of two competitors working one dog, to harvest a predetermined quota of birds. A Hunter division challenge for new competitors or young dogs. Each competitor must work his/her dog in a 10-20 acre field; find, flush or point, and harvest a predetermined quota of birds (usually 3-6 birds are released in each run). Events are timed by an official scorekeeper and competitors usually have 15 to 20 minutes to accomplish their task. Each competitor has twice as many shells as birds released. Top Gun and Doubles division participants compete for cash prizes, trophies and Championship points for their dog. Qualifying scores lead to possible entry in State, Regional and National Challenges. The Hunter division consist of one twenty minute run. Amateurs compete for qualifying points, trophies and Championship points.
