Hunnewell is a city in Shelby County, Missouri, United States. The population was 227 at the 2000 census.

Hunnewell is located at GR1.
(39.666976, -91.859330)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²), all land. With the migration of people to metropolitan areas of the country, the town of Hunnewell has lost a lot of the vigor that it once had as the jewel of the Prairie. Today population mainly constists of people residing below the poverty line. The city still resembles the pillar that Hunnewell, affectionally called "Sweetwater", once was. The streets are sparkling clean, the park is at the pinnacle of beauty, and most of the homes in the little hamlet are well kept and enjoyable to view.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 227 people, 95 households, and 62 families residing in the city. The population density was 139.1/km² (358.3/mi²). There were 112 housing units at an average density of 68.6/km² (176.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 90.31% White, 8.37% African American, and 1.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.44% of the population.
There were 95 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 30.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the city the population was spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 110.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $24,861, and the median income for a family was $31,429. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,985. About 13.2% of families and 15.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.9% of those under the age of eighteen and 10.0% of those sixty five or over.
