Hung Pham

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hung Kim Pham is a politician from Alberta, Canada.

Hung Pham moved to Calgary in 1980 and attended the University of Calgary.

Hung Pham has been a controversial politician, he has garnered the nick name the "MIA-MLA" for his frequent absence in the legislature. He was first elected for the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta in the 1993 Alberta general election. He has served the constituency of Calgary Montrose since its creation in 1993.

In late 2004 Hung Pham was implicated in a municipal level voting scandal during the 2004 Calgary municipal elections in which a number of mail in ballots were ordered under various names for candidate, and later alderman Margot Aftergood. The ballots were later determined to have originated from Hung Pham's residence. Hung Pham denied he had any knowledge and claimed his brother had ordered the ballots, while he was in Vietnam.

Margot ended up beating out Ward 10 incumbent Diane Danielson without the help of the mail in ballots, who's husband Arthur Danielson ran against Pham in the 2004 Alberta general election. Despite the controversy that dogged Phams' campaign, he ended up being re-elected. His campaign followed a controversial nomination that candidate Gus Barron ended up suing the riding association over.
