From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Humanist Society of Scotland (HSS) is a Scottish organisation that promotes Humanist views.
HSS is a member organisation of the International Humanist and Ethical Union. The official symbol of HSS is the Happy Human.
The society campaigns on a range of political issues, the most significant of these currently being its campaign for secular education. Its campaign to allow Humanist celebrants to conduct legally binding wedding ceremonies within Scotland ended successfully when the first legal Humanist wedding took place on 18th June 2005.
As well as campaigning on political issues, the society holds events related to Humanism and publishes a quarterly magazine, Humanism Scotland.
The society provides its own trained celebrants to conduct Humanist ceremonies including weddings, same-sex commitment ceremonies, funerals and baby-namings.
