Human Chain

Human Chain is an UK band led by Django Bates. It started as a duo called Humans with drummer Steve Arguelles and later included multi-instrumentalist Stuart Hall. Martin France replaced Arguelles on drums. When Stuart Hall left the band, bass player Michael Mondesir and Steve Buckley joined. Buckley was replaced by Iain Ballamy.
The current line up, from January 1993 includes Michael Mondesir on bass, Iain Ballamy on saxophones, and Martin France on drums as well as Django on keyboards and tenor horn. A singer was added to the line-up for the Quiet Nights album.
Human Chain formed the backbone to Bates' most recent album You Live and Learn. They are joined by singer Josephine Lindstrand, The Smith Quartet and guests including David Sanborne and Jim Mullen.
Human Chain has performed in Europe, North America, South America, Japan, China, and India. Human Chain has worked in the orchestral world for concerts in Finland, Germany, Greece, and a tour of England with Britten Sinfonia. The Smith Quartet appeared alongside Human Chain at the Venice Bienale in 2003.
Human Chain toured in South America, including dates in Chile, Colombia and Argentina in 1991; and in 1992 played at a number of festivals in Europe including the Belfast International Festival, the Delta International Jazz Festival in the Hague in Holland and the Outside In International Contemporary Music Festival in Crawley. Human Chain has recorded two albums "Human Chain" and "Cashin' In", and contributed two tracks to a EMI record "Pyrotechnic".
