Hull Hornets are a new American Football team that have started up in the Kingston upon Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area. As of 5 November 2006 the team have aquired full member status of the British American Football League and are now eligible to apply for competition in the 2007 regular season.

The area has a long history of American Football heavily involved with current Chairman and Head Coach Chris Evers and Centre/Offensive Line Coach Graham McCoid. Football in Hull traces its roots back to the early eighties when a team was formed under the name of the Hull Kingston Liberators. The team underwent some name changes through the eighties becoming the Kingston Liberators and then the Humberside Liberators before they disbanded in the early nineties. After the Liberators the Hull Pirates Youth Squad were formed to fill the gap and they notched up a third overall place in the national league in their first and only season.
The Hull Rockets was the next development of the sport in the area, they where a youth team that provided some good results in their league, unfortunately they came to an end after only a few years leaving the only remaining American Football team in the area, the Hull Barbarians.
The “Barbs” eventually merging with the Doncaster Mustangs leaving Hull without a senior league team and players having to travel long journeys every week just for practice.
The Hornets were formed in 2005 by Graham McCoid and Chris Evers who were both involved with the teams in Hull throughout the years and ended up at the Mustangs. They both wanted to see American Football come back to Hull and so the Hornets came to be. As they wanted to encourage growth of the sport within the area the decision was also made to develop a youth side associated with the senior team that would play in their own league and act as a feeder for the senior team. The vision of Chris and Graham was to promote the team as a family organization with players being more than just team mates and everyone willing to help each other out, a lot of our players have started by turning up with a pair of boots and not a clue about how to play.

The team is based at Ennerdale Sports Centre at Sutton Road, Hull. The Hornets train once a week at 13:00 on Sundays. The Hornets are able to mark out a full size pitch and don't have to rely on using a converted rugby pitch.
